The SK Concert - PERMANENT DESTRUCTION

A sexy show about self-hatred and unrequited love, featuring lethally poetic lyrics and an excessive use of autotune. The SK Concert is a melodramatic energy concert by theater maker Naomi Velissariou and sound producer Joost Maaskant. Together they form the pop-up band PERMANENT DESTRUCTION. The performance is a sexy show about self-loathing and unrequited love, with deadly poetic lyrics and an excessive use of autotune. With genres ranging from R&B to industrial hardcore and with excessive use of auto-tune and trap hop references.

For this concert, Naomi Velissariou is inspired by Sarah Kane (1971-1999), one of the most notorious playwrights of recent decades, whose psychological state found such an uncompromising resonance in her work. Against the background of Frederik Heyman's video work, the merciless lyrics, beats and bass lines take on a monumental visual dimension. 

The performance premiered on 20 May 2018 in De Paardenkathedraal Utrecht during SPRING and was shown that year at festivals such as Oerol, Over het IJ Festival (Shelter Amsterdam), Theater Aan Zee, Absolutely Free Festival and Lowlands. The SK Concert is the first part of the PERMANENT DESTRUCTION trilogy.

Naomi Velissariou received the Directing Prize 2019 for The SK Concert. In that same year Naomi made part two: The HM Concert, and in 2020 part three: Pain Against Fear, which toured until the summer of 2021. In 2014 won Naomi de TAZ KBC jongtheatermakersprijs voor haar voorstelling A Tragedy (simplified) en in 2017 ontving ze de Charlotte Köhler Prijs, een aanmoedigingsprijs voor jong talent van het Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds. Over Joost Maaskant Joost Maaskant (1984, Sneek), beter bekend als Maask, is beatboxer, stemkunstenaar, muzikant en sound producer. In zijn live performances gebruikt hij zijn eigen stem en een audio-loopsysteem waarbij hij verschillende sounds produceert, van jazz naar dubstep en van drum ’n bass naar ska. Hij is ook een theatrale showman en performer. De afgelopen twee jaar heeft Maask meer dan 400 shows gespeeld op bijna elk Nederlands festival en in het buitenland, zoals Duitsland, België, Polen en Schotland. Ook is hij performer in diverse voorstellingen, o.a. bij De Koninklijke Schouwburg Brussel en het Arsenaal Mechelen. Met choreograaf Charlotte Goesaert maakte hij als performer in februari van dit jaar de voorstelling Loophole.
